California Is The First U.S. State To Ban Plastic Straws In Restaurants
Starting in 2019, California will ban sit-down restaurants from serving customers plastic; however, according to Business Insider, the law doesn't apply for to-go cups and takeaway drinks. Environmentalists say straw bans are a small way to get people thinking about how to reduce their plastic consumption. California is the first US state to go strawless. If a restaurant is caught violating the law it can cost up to $25 a day in fines. If a customer wants a straw they have to ask for it or order their drink to go. In 2016, California also become the first state in the US to ban most stores from providing customers with single-use plastic bags.
